Always Appreciating Good Communication
by Krista W. Bergeron
My observations on people that are effective in life have led me to notice that good communicators usually contribute great value through their good communication skills. I feel that these people are effective in many areas of life. I have seen them make social environments more pleasant, businesses run smoother and family more connected. So, Ive come to the conclusion that the degree to which one can communicate well is the degree to which she will be successful and joyful in life.
In researching effective communicators, it appears that many of them were born with naturally good communication skills. They often times have the ability to get people and situations, connect, and grasp the complexities that happen in communication. So, does this suggest that anyone not having natural communication skills will not be good communicators? I dont think so. I think that communication is like any talent or ability and that it can be improved and nurtured through learning, conscious effort and practice.
I want to improve my ability to communicate. Ive made note of some of the things Ive learned on better communication.
One should be connected. I’ve learned to make a habit of putting away all distractions and be connected in the moment Keith Raniere, Founder of NXIVM and Executive Success Programs. All kinds of diversions should be set aside, such as cares, worries, concerns, entertainment sources around – basically all internal and external distractions. I’ve learned it’s important to make a habit of caring to be present in conversations and practicing that by being obviously focused and engaged.
The other thing my experience has taught me is to really listen, to take time to notice and be certain that I actually understand what the person is saying. I take time to tune into what the person may be feeling and what is likely under the surface.
Its definitely a good practice to ask a ton of questions, and show your interest Clare Bronfman. This shows that I am engaged, interested, and want to know more. As the inquiries are flowing, it is important not to ask too many, as you could find yourself stunting the good communication at some point! Some of the most effective communicators Ive seen listen to peoples responses and are careful to direct questions to encourage positive and flowing responses.
Ive seen and experienced that communication skills can be improved by taking the time to learn, develop and practice. There are quite a few good resources available, such as training programs and books, that support one in developing communication skills. Because I am committed to being effective in life, I have decided to up the ante in communication, and get the coaching I need to do so.
Im enthused to be taking a course to help me with this; Ill be doing that this year with NXIVM www.nxivm.com, which a friend of mine highly recommended. What really encouraged me to sign up is seeing the way my friend went from timid and awkward in communication, to engaging and focused after he took the course last year.
